Alternatives to study
Monday, October 29th, 2007 |Okay, so exams are looming. The first one (”Decision Support Systems Fundamentals”) will begin in less than 24 hours. I’m not ready, but then again, I don’t know anyone who is. There’s just too much information to cover, and all we’re doing is trying to memorise multiple choice questions and a multitude of lists.
This unit is actually so interesting that as soon as I pick up the notes, i.e. the tutorial questions which we are all assuming contains the entire pool of questions, I’ll instantly find motivation to do something else. I mean, I allocated more than a week of time to revising this unit, which should have been more than enough but instead I’ve been doing other things.
Since the official end of uni, I have (not in perfect order, and by no means an exhaustive list):
- Ordered and received my infrared photography gear.
- Tried to figure out how to use aforementioned equipment.
- Researched components for building dedicated photo storage server.
- Found out I have been accepted for an internship… with my current employer.
- Gone to the beach.
- Gotten very sore from taking too many dives while playing beach cricket.
- Went out for dinner with a bunch of people from uni.
- Arranged for the shipment of our shoes from the United States.
- Ordered a Bronica ETR-Si medium format camera.
- Ordered a Polaroid back for camera.
- Find manuals with instructions on how to actually use that back.
- Researched the different types of Polaroid film.
- Realised that I should have got a 6×7cm camera instead of 6×4.5cm which is a waste of Polaroid film.
- Researched the different types of 220 format film.
- Researched where to process said film.
- Thought about getting a film scanner because film labs charge massive sums of money for a tiny scan.
- Cleaned desk.
- Improved Sudoku skills.

- Researched tripods and heads to consider for a possible replacement.
- Went out to do trivial and useless grocery shopping.
- Allowed desk to become more messy than it was before I cleared it.
- Received a tour of the rooftop of 120 Collins Street (sooooo awesome).
- Attempt to post-process some of the photos taken from the 120 Collins St visit.
- Tried to overcome the shock of Oink getting shut down.
- Went out to watch Saw IV and a couple of games of pool.
- On the same night, went out to play pool again with someone else.
- Stocked up on energy drinks.

- Picked up the Polaroid back which was waiting for me at the post office.
- Messed around with the Polaroid back, even though I had no camera to attach it to or film to load.
- Read horror stories about people who bought second hand cameras off ebay.
- Considered ordering a 120 fim back for the camera.
- Went to the beach again… all the way to Carrum for some reason, and at night.
- Ordered Polaroid and 220 film from the states.
- Learnt heaps about Nikon photographic equipment at kenrockwell.com
- Considered buying an old Nikon film SLR.
- Nuked the old, inactive blog.
- Installed an identical blog in its place.
- Trawl the internet for blog themes, until finally selecting one and making a bunch of modifications.
- Looked through image library for suitable image to make into a website header.
- Thought about resuming development on my photo site.
- Lament that I’ve spent pretty much a whole month (and more) of wages.
- Waste time in forums.
- Spent waaaay too much time on Facebook.
- Realised that I forgot to call up work and said I’m not coming in for the week.
- Completed MUSO FIT Student Resources feedback survey.
- Realised that I’m totally unable to get music or software now that Oink has been shut down.
- Wrote long “About Me” page.
- Lament that the time is really running out.
- Wrote this post.
- Thought about what to do after writing this post.
It’s not the same study session, but it was similar enough - last semester, everyone staying the night at uni to finish an assignment:
